Magnetic Resonance Imaging
The physicians of New England Neurological Associates have access to a variety of advanced imaging technologies, including magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) services provided by Merrimack Valley MRI. This facility, owned and operated by Rehab Associates of New England, operates two state of the art MRI machines on the grounds of Caritas Holy Family Hospital: a 1.5 Tesla General Electric Signa CX/LX and an open-design 0.7 Tesla General Electric OpenSpeed.
Utilizing a 1.5 Tesla, high-field strength magnet and advanced software technology, the state-of-the art General Electric Signa CX/LX MRI produces high-resolution images of the brain, spine, joints, chest, and abdomen. As this MRI is at the highest possible level upgrade with respect to magnetic field strength, hardware, and software, it offers patients unique capabilities. These include advanced scanning techniques, vascular imaging (MR Angiography), body imaging, and the use of specialized coils for joint imaging and prostate studies. The 0.7 Tesla Openspeed offers the highest field strength open design MRI now produced, providing larger or claustrophobic patients with an alternative to the traditional MRI design.
Merrimack Valley MRI is fully licensed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and provides services to hospital patients and outpatients. The facility is handicap-accessible. Since opening in December 1987, thousands of patients have been studied with MRI technology, which causes no patient discomfort, pain, or known side effects.
