A collaborative effort between NENA and Northeast Rehabilitation Hospital in Salem,
N.H. has led to a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to patients suffering
chronic pain. The goals of the program include: an improvement in quality of life and a
return to work, if only on a limited basis; reduction in medications; and acceptance of a
medical end point. A "disease management" model has been adopted, focusing the most
appropriate resources on patient needs to effect an excellent outcome and patient
satisfaction. The chronic pain program incorporates the necessary rehabilitation
therapies of Northeast Rehabilitation Hospital with physician services of NENA�s
neurosurgeons, neurologists, physiatrists, and psychiatry/psychology staff.
